Product Features (Historical)
- Web app plus mobile apps for beekeeping records
- Hive inspections and customizable fields
- Photos and mobile field entry
- Pro subscriptions
- Large historical user base according to the closure note
Competitive Analysis
Strengths
- Long-lived product with strong brand recognition among older digital beekeeping users
- Proved demand for digital hive records well before the current AI/IoT wave
- Mobile + web architecture was the right direction for field work
Weaknesses vs Gratheon
- Closed and no longer a direct competitor
- Maintenance burden became unsustainable for a small team
- Manual record keeping only; no IoT/camera automation
- Legacy mobile APIs and aging architecture created product risk
Strategic Implications
Beetight is a cautionary example. Beekeeping apps can gain loyal users, but long-term maintenance, mobile app updates and data portability are critical. Gratheon should design for sustainable infrastructure, exports and upgrade paths from the start.
