🌻 Precise pollination

A global issue is food security, efficiency of growing crops and precise pollination as a solution. Worldwide, 735.1 million people were 🍽️ undernourished, according to FAO in 2022

Farmers do not have bees as pollinators and get low yields

We found a rapidly increasing demand for honeybee pollination but a decreasing pollination service capacity of honeybee colonies. Globally, the demand for honeybee pollination rose approximately 2.3 times higher than the stocked number of honeybee colonies in 2019, growing 1.78% annually, almost 2 times faster than honeybee colonies (0.95%). (…) Our study shows that managedΒ pollinatorsΒ are far too insufficient to adequately supply the agricultural pollination demand worldwide. This emphasises the importance of ongoing calls for protecting pollinators and the integrated management of honeybees and wild pollinator assemblages for a sustainable food-secure future world

in our three case-study countries, we found that the economic value of crop production was 12–31% lower than if pollinators were abundant (because of crop production losses of 3–19%), mainly due to lost fruit and vegetable production

Even if bees are present, they are positioned inefficiently

Apiaries can be placed inefficiently, which can lead to extensive routes done by the foraging bees. This in turn increases risks for the colony to run out of foragers and have starvation. For the beekeepers it can mean reduced yields. Inefficient placement means that hives are positioned close together, far away from fields, trees or water.
