How is the pricing chosen?
- Customer expectations
One bee colony can produce 20-100 kg of honey per season.
Retail honey price varies depending on origin, logistics. Average price is 10-20 EUR / kg.
-> Actual price that farmers are selling it at is much lower, as low as
2 EUR/kg in Romania. Estonia’s production price was 8000 USD/tonn ~ 8 EUR/kg (Statista 2020). So beekeeper can earn 8 * 60 = 480 EUR per hive per year (minus VAT). At this unit economics, any offer must cost less per year for it to be worth buying by the professional beekeeper that is not driven by emotions or status- Competition.
